Next summer, Iniciativas de Publicaciones e Impresión in Córdoba, Spain, is adding yet another extension to its single-width KBA Comet press line which, when it was initially installed back in 1995, was one of the first newspaper presses worldwide to feature shaftless drives.
- Following its extension in summer 2008 the big Comet press line at Iniciativas de Publicaciones e Impresión in Córdoba, Spain, will boast a total of 120 couples (1)
To enhance its printing and colour capacity the south Spanish newspaper publishing house has placed an order with Koenig & Bauer for a Comet press with four KBA Pastoline reelstands, four towers for 4/4 and a KF3 folder. An existing section will have two more Pastoline reelstands and towers added.
- Spanish success story: during the past twelve years several hundred KBA Comet printing units have shipped to newspaper publishers on the Iberian Peninsular (2)
In addition to a comprehensive retrofit package and a control upgrade for two sections, KBA will deliver six new consoles for the complete press installation and a diagnostics PC for remote maintenance. The KBA Comet has a 578mm (22¾in) cut-off on web widths variable between 635 and 840/870mm (25 to 33/34¼in), with 800mm (31½in) as the standard width.
Part of the Zeta group, Iniciativas de Publicaciones e Impresión prints a number of periodicals along with a raft of daily titles that includes Mundo del siglo XXI, La Razón, Sport, Mundo deportivo, three editions of 20 Minutos and Diario Córdoba. Managing director Matías Morillo-Velarde Chiclana says: “Adding a further folder, printing towers and reelstands will enable us to produce up to four titles simultaneously and substantially increase the number of full-colour pages. On top of that the wide choice of web leads will give us much greater flexibility in the production of newspapers with a high colour content yet different page counts.”
